Invest first, or wait until you’re ready?

Stretching Your Business To Reach Your Goals

I recently had a prospective client who wanted marketing support to grow her business. She even knew she had a messaging issue.

She had a clear goal to attract a specific number of people to her new, very niche offer. But the offer and its benefits were unclear to her target audience. She felt like if they did understand, they’d be all in.

But she didn’t end up working with me on her messaging strategy.

Why? She wanted the clients (and the revenue from those sales) before she felt comfortable investing in her messaging.

But the messaging was the missing piece to attract and convert those clients.

See the issue here?

Whether it’s time, money, or emotional energy, investing in your business can be scary. I personally struggle with this too.***

But outsourcing, getting outside perspective, and trusting in experts is necessary if we want to avoid the chicken/egg spiral.

Disclaimer: No animals were harmed in the making of this analogy. 🐣

Take brand messaging for example.

You want to attract and convert clients.

The only way to attract and convert clients is by sharing consistent, clear messages with confidence.

The only way to share consistent, clear messages with confidence is to invest in your brand messaging via deep personal reflection, outside perspective, or both.

Before you invest in your brand messaging, you want a client base that can cover your costs.

The only way to get a client base that covers your costs is to attract and convert clients.

You see where I’m going here right? The cycle continues. On. And on. And on and on.

Caveat: I’m not advocating for investing in anything you don’t have the financial bandwidth or time to commit to. After all, we’re aiming for a sustainable business that feels and does good.

But too often, we wait to take confident, meaningful action until we feel 100%-without-a-doubt ready…which let’s be real, may never happen. (I’m guilty of this on the systems and tech fronts for sure!)

So, what’s the missing piece that would stop your own chicken/egg spiral?
