I chatted with Brian of The Mission-Driven Business Podcast on the 6 Pillars of Successful Brand Messaging! Here’s a little preview of our conversation:
Related to the podcast theme and namesake, Brian asked me what I think of when I hear mission-driven business. I replied:
“A mission-driven business is a group of people, or a solopreneur, who have a really, really clear reason for being—a really clear why—that is driving them toward every single decision.” And he kindly went on to summarize, “If the mission is the ‘why’ of the business, then Ashlee’s sweet spot is working with the ‘how’ of the business: its values.”
We also unpacked an impactful, flexible, true-to-you brand messaging strategy using six core components:
- Brand Statement
- Mission
- Values
- Voice
- Audience
- Key Differentiators
(^This is updated slightly from my previous framework, which I go into detail about here.)
Your values-aligned brand messaging strategy is the focus and intention of the brand you’re building. Together, these elements serve as the root system that holds up and informs all marketing, operations, and internal communications for a business.
Two related side notes:
- I love the specificity of his “niche” and the claiming of his ideal audience. His email footer says he’s “a Registered Investment Adviser with the state of Illinois that specializes in serving the LGBTQ community.” This, combined with the name and vibe of his podcast, gives you a really good idea of him and his business at-a-glance.
- We were connected via the wonderful Lauren Tilden. I’ve had her on my podcast and she’s had me on hers. I’m speaking at an upcoming summit of hers. (More on that soon.) She’s all-around a super centering and approachable person to follow around the internet. Highly recommend you do.
